Know Before You Go!

When one is undergoing a procedure for the first time, it’s normal to be nervous! However, at Laser Center of Port Orange, we strive to make your first visit (and all your subsequent visits after that) as anxiety-free as possible! That’s why we want you to be as prepared as possible for your first treatment. When you sit down with us for your consultation, we’ll go over what will work best for you, what to expect, and how to prepare for your treatment. You may already know to stay out of the sun and to shave stubble before coming in for a hair removal session, but there are some other precautions to take before the treatment that some people don’t even think about!

Avoid waxing and plucking.

If a form of hair removal is meant to damage or remove the root, avoid it for a minimum of six weeks before your laser session. Lasers target the roots of your hair in order to work, and the laser can’t do its job if the root is not there!

Don’t use dirty razors.

Buying new razors is a pain (and probably one of the reasons you can’t wait for laser hair removal) and we know that those who shave tend to reuse razor blades for longer than they should. However, dirty razor blades can cause contact dermatitis after laser hair removal- a delayed allergic reaction that results from contact with an allergen. So when you shave your stubble away the day before your treatment, make sure you use a brand new razor!

Consider switching up your beauty routine.

You probably have a strict skincare regimen that you follow daily. However, scrubs, glycolic acid, and retinol creams should be avoided about two days before and after treatment. Avoid chemical peels for two weeks before and after. After treatment, please wait between 1-2 weeks before applying a fake tan.

Avoid caffeine before treatment.

You may not realize how jittery caffeine makes you – but we assure you, it does affect you! We would like you to be as calm and still as possible during your treatment, so try to avoid coffee and caffeine in general for about 24 hours before treatment.

No gym after treatment!

No gym, sauna, hot showers, or anything similar after your treatment, since the heat from the laser stays in your skin for about 24 hours. This heat combined with sweat and steam can create the perfect environment for bacteria to grow and multiply in – yuck!

By following the above precautions, you can ensure a stress-free laser hair removal session with little risk of side effects! Contact Laser Center of Port Orange to start your hair free journey today.
