It’s unfortunate, but the technology has yet to be developed that will make it so laser hair removal is just a one-treatment process! As the technology stands now, you will need several treatments to get rid of hair in any specific area – and the amount of treatments is different for everyone!
That means that yes, even though your hair growth will be reduced between each and every treatment, the hair will still grow. So what is one to do in between treatment?
We actually recommend shaving! We know that you’ve heard plenty of myths about shaving throughout the years, but they are actually not true. For instance, you’ve probably been told your whole life that shaving makes your hair grow back thicker, darker, and/or more quickly. This is just simply not true! Hair growing back “thicker” is actually an illusion. When you are shaving, it’s similar to giving the hair on your head on trim. The roots of the hair remain untouched (unlike tweezing or waxing). The reason it appears thicker is that you are shaving your hairs at their thickest point – so they will continue to grow out from their thickest point, which may seem a bit jarring at first (unlike tweezing or waxing, where the hair will begin to regrow from the root). Additionally, growing hair in from the root takes much longer than just having the hair grow out from its trim! That is why you may perceive your hair to be growing back more quickly. But this is exactly why we need you to shave and not wax or trim before your treatments!
Laser hair removal works by using light. Lasers send highly concentrated light beams to your hair follicles, destroying your hair’s roots without affecting the surrounding areas. The laser targets the PIGMENT of your hair follicle, and the follicle actually has to be there in order for this to work. How can the laser target a hair it can’t find? It can’t!
We understand that if you’re not seeing results as quickly as you’d hoped for, you’d want to do everything you can to get rid of your unwanted hair. However, for laser hair removal to be successful, you need to be consistent with your treatments! Results are best seen by people go in for treatment every four to six weeks – in perfect conjunction with their hair’s growth cycle. This time frame allows the dead hair shafts to fall out on their own.
